WINE OF THE WEEK
Vincent Girardin Auxey-Duresses Rouge Village ‘Vieilles Vignes’ 2019
Vincent Girardin is a Meursault house best known for its whites, but the reds get the same cellar and the same restraint. This cuvée comes from the domaine’s oldest Auxey parcels, vines that give less fruit and more depth with each passing decade.
2019 was a generous vintage on the Côte de Beaune, and it suits Auxey well. Red cherry and raspberry, a touch of dried rose, wild thyme, and the fine, dusty tannin that marks the village. Twelve months in barrel with little new oak, so the fruit and the limestone do the talking.

From one of Montalcino’s most thoughtful and quietly exceptional small estates, where Riccardo Campinoti farms high-altitude vineyards on the northeastern slopes with a precision and sensitivity that consistently brings out Sangiovese of remarkable purity and elegance.
A true “baby Brunello” that’s matured for 24 months in large oak before bottling. Bright and alive with vibrant red fruits, dried violet, wild herbs, and a cool, stony minerality. Medium-bodied and beautifully composed, with firm yet finely grained tannins.

Vincent Girardin
Under winemaker Eric Germain, Vincent Girardin has become one of the best négociant houses in Burgundy, and it is hard to argue otherwise. The house is based in Meursault and built its name on whites, but the reds get the same cellar and the same restraint, and the value across the range is hard to match anywhere on the Côte.
The reds on the table this Saturday are all old vine cuvées from the ripe, open 2019 vintage, now in their window. And because it would be wrong to pour Girardin without a white, we could not resist adding one Meursault.
Stop by the warehouse between 10am and 5pm to give these wines a try.
