Elio Altare is one of the Barolo Boys, the producers who transformed Piedmont winemaking in the 1980s by breaking hard with tradition.
The Barbera d’Alba is where that philosophy meets everyday drinking. Deep ruby, bright natural acidity, concentrated black cherry and plum with a clean, polished finish. Our allocation on Altare is small, and these wines deserve your attention.

Magnum of the Month
A Mâconnais Chardonnay with a gentle richness that speaks to the warmer southern end of Burgundy’s white wine spectrum. Ripe white peach, honeysuckle, and toasted hazelnut layered over a cool, limestone minerality that keeps everything fresh and lively. The palate is medium-full with a lovely creamy texture, balanced by vivid acidity and a long, gently honeyed finish. Unoaked Chardonnay from one of the appellation’s most reliable estates, and at only $58 a magnum, it’s a consistent reminder that the Mâconnais is one of Burgundy’s great bargains.

Elio Altare is one of Barolo’s most important living figures. A founding member of the Barolo Boys, the group of producers who revolutionized the appellation in the 1980s, his estate in La Morra has been producing some of Piedmont’s most compelling wines for four decades.
