Chateau Grand Ormeau Cuvee Chevalier Lalande de Pomerol 2019
Château Grand Ormeau sits in upper Lalande de Pomerol and appears in the 1874 Féret guide among the appellation’s leading properties.
Cuvée Chevalier comes from three hectares of the estate’s younger vines: 80 percent Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 shows dark plum, black cherry, violet, and a ferrous mineral edge, with tannins now fully folded in. Ready now, or hold another three years.

Barbera’s Moment
For much of its history, Barbera d’Alba was the wine poured at the family table, however, over the past two decades, it has undergone something of a revolution with producers paying closer attention to what their Barbera vineyards were actually capable of; a grape of surprising depth and versatility.
Today’s finest Barbera d’Alba wines are rich, complex, and genuinely age-worthy, with the variety’s naturally pronounced dark fruit, velvety texture, and characteristically low tannins.
It remains one of the most naturally food-friendly red wines in Italy and at prices that still feel entirely reasonable given the quality now on offer.

Paitin Nebbiolo d’Alba ‘Ca Veja’ 2021
Paitin is one of the Langhe’s oldest and most respected family estates, the Pasquero-Elia family has been farming their vines in Neive since 1796.This is Nebbiolo of real charm and complexity, handled with the same care that goes into the domaine’s most celebrated wines.
The 2021 is a beautiful vintage expression with dried rose, wild cherry and a subtle iron-edged minerality. Medium to full-bodied, with the firm but ripe tannins and bright acidity that are the hallmarks of great Nebbiolo. From magnum, this handsomely nuanced Nebbiolo has an added dimension of freshness and elegance.

Pomerol, Both Banks
The Barbanne is a modest stream with an immodest job: it draws the line between Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol. This Saturday, we poured the 2019 vintage from both sides.
Château Grand Ormeau Cuvée Chevalier 2019, our Wine of the Week, comes from the Lalande bank. Merlot-led, dark plum and mocha, supple and ready. $26.
Château Latour à Pomerol 2019 sits on the clay and gravel of the plateau proper, farmed by the Moueix family alongside Petrus and Trotanoy. Old-vine Merlot, black cherry, truffle, plush tannins. $100. Built to hold for a decade.
