Niepoort Vertente 2020
Dirk Niepoort makes wines at every level of the game and gets them all right. That consistency comes from a philosophy built on decades of cross-regional experience, applied with rigour back in the Douro. Vertente draws from old vines in iron-rich schist soils with minimal intervention throughout. Dark plum, dried fig, cracked pepper, and a mineral backbone that gives the wine real length.

Magnum of the Month
A Mâconnais Chardonnay with a gentle richness that speaks to the warmer southern end of Burgundy’s white wine spectrum. Ripe white peach, honeysuckle, and toasted hazelnut layered over a cool, limestone minerality that keeps everything fresh and lively. The palate is medium-full with a lovely creamy texture, balanced by vivid acidity and a long, gently honeyed finish. Unoaked Chardonnay from one of the appellation’s most reliable estates, and at only $58 a magnum, it’s a consistent reminder that the Mâconnais is one of Burgundy’s great bargains.
