Matthiasson Napa Valley Chardonnay – Linda Vista Vineyard 2023
Steve Matthiasson is one of Napa’s most respected viticulturists, the guy other winemakers call when their vineyards are in trouble. His own Linda Vista Vineyard in the cooler Oak Knoll district is where he gets to do things exactly his way.
This is all tension and precision: Meyer lemon, white peach, wet stone, and a spine of acidity that makes it one of the most food-friendly whites we carry. Put it next to grilled fish or a plate of rockfish ceviche and you’ll understand immediately why we keep coming back to it.

Patrick Piuze is one of the most talked-about figures in Chablis today — a Québécois-born winemaker who arrived in Burgundy in the late ‘90s and refined his winemaking skills working alongside top producers before launching his own négociant label in 2008. His wines are known for their precision, minerality, and clarity. We think his wines absolutely sing and to get a better understanding of his winemaking philosophy, we’ve picked six wines from the very healthy, warm and generous 2022 vintage for you to enjoy this month.

Magnum of the Month
At $65 for a magnum, this is exceptional value from one of Rioja’s most exciting producers. Viña Alberdi comes from the iconic La Rioja Alta estate, renowned for crafting some of the most elegant and traditionally styled wines the region has to offer. The reserva spends two years aging in American oak barrels, followed by a further two years in bottle, resulting in a beautifully mature Tempranillo with seamlessly integrated oak, gentle tertiary complexity, and a smooth, silky mouthfeel.

Steve Matthiasson is one of Napa’s most respected viticulturists and his own label shows exactly why. Precise farming, restrained winemaking, wines that don’t need to shout.
This Saturday we’re pouring three bottles side by side. The Linda Vista Chardonnay 2023 and two 2022 Cabernets: the Napa Valley bottling, sourced from organic sites across the valley and built on balance; and the Phoenix Vineyard, from the block behind Steve and Jill’s home, with more depth and intimacy.
